Student Visa Guide for Bangladeshi Students: UK, Australia, Canada and Germany 2025
Everything you need to know to apply for a student visa successfully — from documents to interviews.
📄
Getting into a foreign university is only half the journey. Your student visa determines whether you actually board that flight. Visa rejections are common and almost always avoidable. This guide covers the four most popular destinations for Bangladeshi students — with the exact documents, timelines and common rejection reasons for each.

🇬🇧 United Kingdom: Student Visa (Formerly Tier 4)
Step 1
Receive your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). Your UK university issues this unique reference number after you accept your offer and pay any required deposit. You cannot apply for a visa without it.
Step 2
Prove financial requirement. You must show funds covering tuition for year one plus living costs (approximately GBP 1,334 per month outside London, GBP 1,023 in London). Funds must be held in your or your parents' bank account for at least 28 consecutive days before applying.
Step 3
English language proof. IELTS Academic 6.0 minimum for most programmes (some require 6.5 or 7.0). The test must be taken at a UKVI-approved centre specifically. Standard IELTS is not accepted for visa purposes.
Step 4
Apply online and book biometrics. Apply on the UK Visas and Immigration website. Pay the visa fee (currently approximately GBP 490) plus the Immigration Health Surcharge (approximately GBP 776 per year of study). Book your biometric appointment at VFS Global in Dhaka.
🇦🇺 Australia: Student Visa (Subclass 500)
CoE First
Receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). Your Australian institution provides this after full or partial tuition payment. You cannot lodge your visa application without a valid CoE number.
GTE Test
Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement. Australia requires you to demonstrate through a written statement that you intend to stay temporarily for study only. This is the most common rejection reason for Bangladeshi applicants. Your statement must be specific, credible and show strong home ties.
Financials
Proof of funds for living and tuition. Approximately AUD 24,505 per year for living expenses plus full tuition. Bank statements, term deposits or financial guarantees from parents are accepted. Funds must clearly show capacity and source.
Apply Online
Apply through ImmiAccount on the Home Affairs website. Upload all documents in the correct format. Processing takes 4 to 6 weeks for straightforward applications. Health insurance (OSHC) must be purchased before the visa is granted.
🇨🇦 Canada: Study Permit
Required
Letter of Acceptance
From a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada. Most reputable universities are DLIs. Confirm DLI status on the official IRCC website before applying.
Critical
Proof of Financial Support
CAD 20,635 minimum for living expenses for first year plus tuition plus return travel. Bank statements must show consistent balance over time — not a sudden large deposit just before applying.
New 2024
Student Direct Stream (SDS)
Bangladeshi students qualify for SDS which reduces processing to 20 days. Requires IELTS 6.0 overall, Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAD 10,000 and first-year tuition paid upfront.
Watch Out
Ties to Home Country
Visa officers assess whether you will return after studies. Family, property, employment prospects in Bangladesh all count as ties. Articulate these clearly in your personal statement.
🇩🇪 Germany: Student Visa
| Requirement | Details | Notes for BD Students |
| University Admission Letter | Official letter from German university | Must state programme, start date and language of instruction |
| Blocked Account (Sperrkonto) | EUR 11,208 deposited in a German blocked account | Fintiba or Deutsche Bank are popular providers accessible from Bangladesh |
| German Language Proof | B1 minimum for German-taught programmes | English-taught programmes require IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 instead |
| Academic Qualification | HSC equivalent recognised by anabin database | Bangladeshi HSC is generally recognised — verify your specific institution |
| Health Insurance | Public or private German health insurance | Arrange before arriving — required for university enrolment |
| Visa Interview | In-person at German Embassy Dhaka | Appointments book out 4 to 8 weeks in advance — apply early |
💡
The Single Biggest Rejection Cause for Bangladeshi Applicants: Insufficient or inconsistently documented financial evidence. Bank statements that show a sudden large deposit just before the visa application — without a clear and credible explanation of the source of funds — are flagged by every visa officer at every embassy. Build your financial paper trail at least 6 months before applying.
✅ Visa Application Best Practices
- Apply at least 3 months before your intake date
- Keep all documents in a consistent order
- Write a clear, specific personal statement
- Show genuine ties to Bangladesh throughout
- Get documents translated by a certified translator
❌ Common Rejection Reasons
- Sudden large bank deposits just before applying
- Vague or generic personal statements
- Missing or unsigned documents
- Applying too close to the intake start date
- Using non-UKVI IELTS for a UK visa application
